Mills Kirin



Mills earned a degree in Computing as well as double honours degrees in Law and Commerce from the University of Tasmania and the University of New South Wales respectively. He started practising law in the early 2000s and has extensive local and international experience gained in Australia and abroad.

Mills has variously been admitted to as a practitioner to the Victorian, New South Wales and Queensland Supreme Courts and the High Court of Australia:

Every transaction carries with it a risk of a dispute arising. Workouts and restructuring

Mills was working in Europe when the Global Financial Crisis shook most of the business world to its core. In the following years, Mills worked on numerous large corporate workouts and debt restructurings, especially involving commercial property such as hotels and shopping centres. Drawing on this invaluable experience, Mills regularly advises local businesses on their own dealings with their banks, trade and other creditors as well as providing help to creditors, including landlords, to protect their rights and interests in the face of threatened or declared bankruptcy by tenants and other debtors.

New Economy Law

Consistent with his commitment to staying on the cutting edge of clients’ needs, Mills is currently undertaking postgraduate study at RMIT in law relating to technological innovations, such as Artificial Intelligence and Distributed Ledger Technologies (a.k.a. “Block chain”).  His practice focuses on planning for and assisting clients with the often radical changes caused by digital disruption to their business practices and models, as well as to local government policy. Mills is fully equipped to provide legal guidance both to new economy businesses, existing businesses adapting to the digital age and councils and other local government authorities developing and implementing guidelines and policies.


Family law

Contiguous to his practice as a litigation and estates solicitor, mills also regularly advises clients on their matrimonial disputes. Most of the time, it is possible to keep marriage break-ups out of the court and part of the skill of a good practitioner is in ensuring matters do not escalate between the parties to a level where litigation becomes necessary.
